Guidelines for Book Donations

When you think of donating books to Rwanda Reads or holding a book drive - please consider a monetary contribution at the same time to assist with cost of shipping the books you donate.  Please send financial donations separately.  Although we appreciate all donations, without proper financial support it is difficult send the books to Rwanda.

When considering a donation to Rwanda Reads please review the following guidelines for acceptable books:

Post-secondary textbooks, hardcover or soft-cover, not older than five-years.
Reference books such as encyclopedias and dictionaries 1990 or newer.
Nursing, Medical and Law textbooks
National Geographic and academic journals from the past 20 years
Fiction & Non-fiction reading books hard-cover or soft-cover for both children and adults (review non-acceptable categories below)
School supplies i.e. paper, pencils, pens, rulers, scissors & similar are always welcome
World maps in book format or suitable for wall hangings

Please consider these categories when making a book donation:

Books in good physical condition—gently used or new, durable and quality books 
Age—20 years old or newer for textbooks and 15 years old or newer for changing subjects, i.e. Encyclopedias, atlases, biological sciences. 
Subject matter that would be relevant to an African reader. 

Please DO NOT DONATE books with the following content:

Paperback and hardcover romance or mystery novels
Any types of books with religious content or relevance
American History or American Civics books
Books that are too narrow in their points of view such as the biography of Abraham Lincoln, American or political figures or the history of Illinois
Spanish or German books 
Any magazines, except for National Geographic and academic journals
Books or magazines promoting home décor, landscaping, cooking or wedding planning
